New Chapters for Rachel Springman
Well, another week gone by and yet another week closer to the CMRC Western Canadian Women’s Nationals promoted by CDNWMX. Time seems to be flying by and I’m not sure how to feel about it. I feel like we haven’t even had a winter over here in Alberta, which I guess to the motocross community has been a huge bonus. With the economy not in our favour, having the ability to ride most of the winter with some studs in the tires instead of going down to California has been a benefit for most riders. Because many have been riding most of the winter, I think we will see the competition a lot more evened out in both the men’s field and the women’s. This makes me extremely excited to see how the series plays out with all the potential the women series has with new up and coming girls. With that being said, if any girls haven’t seen the information package, I encourage you to look through it here http://www.cmrcracing.com/womens-national-info/, as we have made some changes from previous years. If you have any questions about the package, the series, or anything else, please don’t hesitate to contact myself or Leah Clarke in the east.
On that note, we have been busy trying to plan our riding schools and are happy to confirm that we now have a riding school in Kamloops, BC on May 21 from 8am-12pm. Please see our website for more information. I encourage any girls who are in the BC area to attend this school because not only do we have the 2015 West Champ, Sara King, as an instructor, but I also was able to get our 2015 #2 rider Rachel Springman to be there! I can definitely say you will walk away with an amazing experience as these two girls know what it takes to be a champion.
I have known Rachel for quite a few years and I can tell you, this girl is dead set on making a statement in this world. She has always been one to put in the work to accomplish her goals. After my accident, she was also one of those girls who made the trek to come see me at the hospital. I will always be forever thankful for the motocross community. As I have said time and time again, this series has allowed us to build many friendships and memories we all will carry for a lifetime.
I was able to catch up with Rachel this past week to see what she has been up to since last summer. Check it out below.
SR: Hey Rachel, can you tell the world who you are, how long have you have been racing and how you got into the sport?
Rachel: Hey! I am 23-years-old and I’m from Abbotsford, BC. I have been riding a dirt bike since I was four. My Dad grew up racing as a kid and our whole family is into the sport.
SR: For those who don’t know you, can you tell them how your season in 2015 went?
Rachel: It went really well! I had a lot of things going on last year career-wise and I took a step back from racing. In the spring I had an unexpected opportunity to go to California and train for a month. I went down and came back to race locally and the Nationals.
To me, this past season was the most fun I’ve had riding and I am really happy with how it went. I think a big part of it was putting less pressure on myself with racing and realizing that I’m doing it for fun and nothing else.
SR: For those who don’t know her, Rachel’s “it went really well” statement, was referring to a second overall in the CMRC Western Canadian Women’s Nationals, something she should be extremely proud of! What have you been up to since the summer and what are the plans for the rest of this year?
Rachel: Basically a week after Calgary I was given my dream job! I started training for that in September and will finish up in June. Unfortunately, I have not ridden since and won’t be able to until summer because I can’t get hurt.
I am pretty busy with work and am really enjoying the life change. Dirt bikes will always be a part of my life but I’ve enjoyed focusing on something else that I am passionate about.
SR: Definitely a girl who is out to accomplish her dreams. With you being so busy with work, are there any plans for races this year?
Rachel: No racing, but I hope to get out in the summer and ride for fun. I’m hoping I still know how to. (haha).
SR: I am hoping if you are helping run the riding school, you remember how to ride! Okay, if you could see one change in the Women’s National Series, what would it be?
Rachel: The series as it is, is pretty awesome. I think that adding a fourth round will make things exciting for the upcoming series.
SR: Always so positive, I like it. Do you have any life plans/goals you want to achieve in the next few years?
Rachel: A lot of my plans involve my job and I would like to buy a house. I still feel like a kid, but I’m trying to become an adult.
SR: Story of all our lives! Okay Rachel, one final question. If you could give advice to a new girl who is starting up in the racing world, what would it be?
Rachel: Focus on riding and less on the other aspects of the motocross scene. There’s nothing that will make you faster than seat time. Instagram and Facebook will still be there when you get home, if you know what I mean!
SR: That is so true. I think you are definitely a figure many girls will look up to for many years to come. Alright Rachel, is there anyone you would like to thank?
Rachel: I’d like to thank the people who supported me over the years and this past season! Holeshot Motorsports, Yamaha Motor Canada, Jay Moore at Fox Canada, Paul Rak at Spy, Gerald Heinrichs, and my friends and family.
Thank you Rachel for taking the time to talk and volunteering your time to help run the riding school in Kamloops this spring! I would also like to just point out that Rachel is the creator of our new CDNWMX logo that you have hopefully seen on social media and now on our t-shirts. So thank you Rachel for that as well. On a final note, Leah has a new batch of t-shirts over on the east for anyone that is interested. We are selling them for $25 each plus shipping, so please be sure to get your hands on one of those by contacting us through our website! All the help is greatly appreciated.
Until next week friends…
