Monster Energy Leading Edge Thor Kawasaki’s Matt Goerke Wins Both Motos Dominating Gopher Dunes

Monster Energy Leading Edge Thor Kawasaki’s Teddy Maier continues to set the pace, winning in the MX2 class  

Courtland, Ontario (July 14, 2012) – Under sweltering skies, the Monster Energy Leading Edge Thor Kawasaki duo of Matt Goerke and Teddy Maier stayed cool and took home both the MX1 and MX2 class wins at round five of the Monster Energy Motocross National from Gopher Dunes Raceway.  In dominating fashion, these two riders rode smart on the rough Gopher Dunes track and continued their winning ways.

 

In the MX1 class, Goerke was in control all day and was never challenged in either moto.  The Florida native certainly looked comfortable in the sand and if there was any doubt that he would continue his winning ways on the east coast, that doubt is gone.  Behind Goerke was the usual suspects of Rockstar OTSFF Motovan.com Yamaha rider Bobby Kiniry, Gopher Dunes Racing Troy Lee Designs Honda Powersports Canada’s Tyler Medaglia and KTM Red Bull Royal Distributing Fox Racing riders Dusty Klatt and Colton Facciotti.  All four riders took turns chasing Goerke but Goerke was simply to good on the rough, sandy track.

 

The MX2 class featured a little tighter racing, with a number of lead changes in both motos.  The biggest surprise of the day was the amazing ride of KTM Duroy Racing Motovan.com’s Kaven Benoit.  The super talented KTM rider was making his national return after a severe knee injury suffered during the winter while he was competing in Snocross.  In moto one, Benoit grabbed the early lead and simply checked out, behind him, points leader Maier was making up ground after a bad start but had to settled for second.

 

In moto two, Maier stalked KTM Red Bull Royal Distributing Fox Racing rider Jeremy Medaglia who lead for over half of the race before making his move and taking off to yet another victory.   Maier has won four of the first five rounds in the MX2 class and looks to be in control of the series.

 

The 2012 Monster Energy Motocross National Series continues its move East to Ste Julie, Quebec for round six on July 22, 2012.  Just a short commute from beautiful downtown Montreal, the Ste Julie track features rolling hills and great spectator viewing.  The racing will no doubt be intense for Quebec’s only stop of the series.
