MONSTER ENERGY MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON OPENER SET FOR NANAIMO, JUNE 3

Nanaimo, BC (May 18, 2012) – When the Monster Energy Motocross Championship, returns on June 3 to Nanaimo’s Wastelands Motocross Track, local competitors Colton Facciotti of Aldergrove, BC and Dusty Klatt of Campbell River, BC will make a triumphant return to the track they consider as their home away from home.

 

In 2011, the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals MX1 class featured, Facciotti and Klatt engaging in an epic battle during all nine series stops. The battle ended with Yamaha Red Bull Blackfoot Fox Racing’s Facciotti capturing his third Canadian Motocross Championship in just four seasons, while leaving teammate Klatt finishing in second place.

 

Nanaimo will kick off the first of the nine rounds that make up the

2012 Monster Energy Motocross National Series, as the CMRC celebrates its 20th Anniversary of The Canadian Pro Motocross Nationals, going coast to coast across Canada throughout the summer months. The excitement level for the upcoming season is at an all-time high, as many athletes including both Facciotti and Klatt have switch rides and are ready to kick off their 2012 championship hunt with avenges.

 

In the MX1 class there is a long list of Canada’s top motocrosscers who will storm into Nanaimo aboard their 450F machines, including KTM Red Bull Royal Distributing’s Colton Facciotti and Dusty Klatt, Machine Racing Yamaha’s Kyle Keast, Gopher Dunes Honda’s Tyler Medaglia and Yamalube Schrader’s SMX Racing’s Shawn Maffenbeier . If these Canadian racers plan to keep the Canadian Motocross Championship on home soil, they will need to defeat fellow top American racers

including: Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki’s Matt Goerke and Tyler Villopoto, as well as, OTSFF Rockstar Yamaha’s Bobby Kiniry and additional International racers from other numerous countries.

 

The 2012 season will also mark one of the deepest MX2 fields in series history, as the 2011 champion Tyler Medaglia has moved up to the MX1 class, leaving the door wide open for a new 2012 champion. The MX2 class favorites include: Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki’s Teddy Maier and Kyle Beaton, KTM Red Bull Royal Distributing’s Jeremy Medaglia, OTSFF Rockstar Yamaha’s Richard Grey as well as an abundant of privateer racers who have been training for month to become championship contenders, hoping to make a name for themselves aboard their 250F machines.

 

Over the course of nice weekends there will be 18 motos deciding both the MX1 and MX2 championships, as racers will have everything from extreme temperatures to varying track conditions and weather elements challenging them. For our competitors, 2012 will be full of all emotions as The Monster Energy Motocross Nationals is one the toughest and most respected motocross series in the world.

WHAT: The CMRC Monster Energy Motocross Nationals, Opening Round in Nanaimo, British Columbia.

 

WHERE: Nanaimo MX (The Wastelands MX) – From Duke Point Ferry/Naniamo, take Nanaimo Hwy (Hwy 19) to Jinglepot Rd., south (exit

24) to Biggs Rd (right) 5kms to Wastelands MX Park. From Departure Bay Ferry/Nanaimo take Hwy 19A, turn left on Mostar, cross Hwy 19 first right on Biggs Rd, 5km.

 

WHEN: June 3, 2011

 

WHO: Over 100 professional motocross racers will be soaring three stories high and over 70 feet in length in what many consider “the most grueling, yet entertaining, sport in the world.” Motocross is the ultimate combination of stamina, skill and speed.

 

2011 WINNERS: MX1: Colton Facciotti (Yamaha). MX2: Tyler Medaglia (Yamaha).

 

SCHEDULE: Sunday (June 3) – Pro Practice, 8:00am., Qualifying 9:20am.; Opening Ceremonies, 11:50am. MX2 Moto 1 starts at 12:10pm.; MX1 Moto 1 starts at 1:30pm.; both the MX2 and MX1 classes will have two 30-minute, plus two lap motos.
