450SX Class Stats: San Diego

The first 450SX Class race held in San Diego was on October 25, 1980. Mike Bell won on a Yamaha.

This race marks the 32nd time the gate will drop for 450SX Class race in San Diego.
The only first time winner in San Diego was David Vuillemin on a Yamaha in 2000.

 

Davi Millsaps gave Suzuki their first-ever 450SX Class win in San Diego 2013. It was Millsaps’ second San Diego 450SX Class victory. He also won San Diego in 2010 on a Honda.

 

Can Ryan Dungey give KTM their first 450SX Class win in San Diego?

 

Chad Reed has the most 450SX Class wins in San Diego with six. Reed’s last San Diego win gave Honda their 200th victory in 2011.

 

Reed won San Diego three straight seasons from ’03-’05.
Jeremy McGrath has five 450SX Class wins in San Diego and they all came back-to-back from ’93-’98. (There was no San Diego SX in ’97).
McGrath, James Stewart, and Ryan Villopoto have all won San Diego in both the 250SX and 450SX Classes. Can Dungey, Eli Tomac, Jake Weimer, or Andrew Short join them?

 

McGrath, Stewart, Millsaps and Reed have all won San Diego on two brands. Can Reed become the first rider to win San Diego on three brands?
Honda won 10 of 11 450SX Class races in San Diego from 1985 to 1996.
San Diego hosted the opening race of the 1985 450SX Class Championship.
Honda has six event sweeps in San Diego and Yamaha has two. Kawasaki swept the event in the 2012 season with Villopoto and Dean Wilson.

Due to Stewart not racing, there will not be back-to-back winner in San Diego. There has been a different winner in the 450SX Class in San Diego for the past six seasons.

Can Ken Roczen rebound from back-to-back finishes off the podium? Only once in his career has he finished off of the podium for three consecutive races.

 

Can Trey Canard win two out of three by winning San Diego? He is tied with Tomac for third in the 450SX Class points.

 

Can Jason Anderson keep his top-10 streak alive and return to the podium for the first time since the opening race?

 

San Diego has been very good to Reed. He has five wins and nine top-five finishes there. Can he return to the top step once again in San Diego?

450SX Class: Anaheim Recap

Dungey earned his 15th career 450SX Class victory. He now has six consecutive 450SX Class seasons with a victory. It was also his first win of the season and first win since Indianapolis 2014. The 2014 Indianapolis 450SX Class race also featured the same riders on the podium with Dungey, Tomac, and Cole Seely.

 

Dungey is the only 450SX Class rider with a top-five finish in each race this season.

 

Dungey is the fourth different winner in five races.

 

KTM became the third different brand to win this season.

 

KTM has now won for four consecutive seasons. Dungey’s win was KTM’s 10th 450SX Class victory.

 

Seely earned his first podium of the season with a runner-up finish. It was his first podium since Indianapolis 2014.

 

Tomac earned his fourth consecutive top-four finish with a third.

 

Roczen rebounded from his 16th place last week to finish fourth in Anaheim. It was his first 450SX Class start in Anaheim where he didn’t finish on the podium.

 

Canard finished fifth place in Anaheim. He now has 29 career 450SX Class top-five finishes.

 

Reed earned his 165th top-10 finish in his 175th career 450SX Class start.

 

Blake Baggett tied his career best 450SX Class finish with a seventh place. He now has three in-a-row top-10 finishes.

 

Justin Barcia earned his third top-10 finish in-a-row with an eighth place finish.

 

Anderson finished ninth in Anaheim. Anderson and Dungey are the only riders to have a top-10 finish in each 450SX Class main.

 

Josh Hill earned his first top-10 finish of the season with a tenth place finish.

 

250SX Class: San Diego Stats
The first 250SX Class race held in San Diego was on January 26, 1985. Todd Campbell won the race on a Kawasaki. This was the first ever 250SX Class race in the history of the championship.
This race marks the 29th time the gate will drop for a 250SX Class race in San Diego.
The last back-to-back 250SX Class winner in San Diego was Stewart from ’02-’03. McGrath won back-to-back from ’91-’92. Justin Hill could join them with a win in San Diego 2015.

Cooper Webb earned his third career 250SX Class victory at the third race in Anaheim. It was his eighth top-five in 14 250SX Class starts.

 

Webb has finished in the top-two for four consecutive races.

 

Yamaha has won three of the five races to start the 2015 season. Yamaha now has 87 250SX Class victories.

 

Jessy Nelson earned his third career 250SX Class podium with his runner-up finish in Anaheim. Nelson has 17 top-10 finishes in 20 career 250SX Class starts.

 

Can Pro-circuit Kawasaki get their first win of the season? They have not been shut out of the West Coast since 2013.

Can Webb earn his fifth straight podium and third victory in San Diego?

 

Aaron Plessinger earned a career high third place finish. It was his first 250SX Class podium. Plessinger has four top-10 finishes in his five career 250SX Class starts.

 

Zach Osborne, making his 35th career 250SX Class start, earned his 11th career 250SX Class top-five finish with a fourth place finish.

 

Matt Biscelgia earned his fourth career 250SX Class top-five finish with a fifth place finish. It was his first top-10 of the season after being injured for the last couple of races.

 

Shane McElrath earned his sixth career 250SX Class top-10 finish with a sixth place finish. McElrath has 14 career 250SX Class starts and only one top-five finish.

 

Josh Hansen, making his 62nd career 250SX Class start, earned his 46th career top-10 finish and tied his season’s best seventh place finish.

 

Hill continues his impressive 250SX Class career with an eighth place finish. In his 20 250SX Class Main Events, Hill has only finished outside of the top-10 twice.

 

Alex Martin earned his third straight top-10 finish with a ninth place finish. He now has 16 career 250SX Class top-10 finishes in his 32 career 250SX Class starts.

 

Cole Martinez tied his career best finish with a 10th place in Anaheim. It was his 2nd career 250SX Class top-10 finish and first this season.
