Australian Brett Metcalfe picked up his third consecutive moto win for the Leading Edge Monster Energy Kawasaki team at the Monster Energy CMRC Motocross national in Calgary, Alberta.
Cycle North Honda team picked up their second hole shot in as many motos today when Ross Johnson grabbed the Royal Distributing hole shot. Johnson has been strong all day but could not hold off Monster Energy Kawasaki Teddy Maier and Brett Metcalfe for long. Once into the lead spots Maier and Metcalfe began to break away from Johnson who was under attack from KTM Canada racer Tyler Medaglia and RM Motosport MX101 Yamaha rider Jeremy Medaglia.
Maier began to mount a charge on Metcalfe when his bike suffered a mechanical forcing him from the race. Metcalfe was left alone out front while the battles for position raged behind him. Jeremy Medaglia would soon get by his brother when he slipped out and forcing Tyler to deal with Bobby Kiniry. Kiniry was working up from a start he described as “embarrassing”. Kiniry moved by Tyler to take third. Morgan Burger was the next to go after Tyler, eventually passing him and taking 4th in the moto.
Metcalfe pulled out a very comfortable lead by motos end and said in the end he was able conserve energy for the second moto.
