It seems like yesterday that we were getting ready for the opening round of the 2014 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals in Nanaimo. Well, here we are three rounds in already and the stars of the series are beginning to shine.

Q: This week’s question is about one of the series stars and it comes from Ryan on the east coast. Ryan wants to know what I think of Tyler Medaglia so far and how do I think he’ll do once the MX1 series heads east.

A: Let me start off by saying that I have nothing but the utmost admiration and respect for Tyler, not just for what he’s done on the bike but for how he lives his life off the bike as well. He really seems to “get it” and by that I mean that he respects the sport and he’s old enough now to realize that he needs to make the most out of the present. A top rider’s career goes by fast, and for some it takes them so long to figure out that there might not be a next year, it’s too late. But, Tyler has certainly made the most out of his time in racing and I for one hopes that he’s got many more years left in him.

I think Tyler has made a career out of proving that hard work wins every time. If there’s one thing that he knows how to do is work hard. His parents instilled that in him at a very young age. We saw that work ethic last season when he got on a KTM just weeks before the first round. Although he started the series a little slow, once the MX1 guys hit the east, Tyler really found his stride. I think it will be the same this year for him as well. He started his career on the tracks in the east so the knowledge on how to ride those conditions is engrained in him. So far though, he’s impressed me with his speed this summer. I know we’re only three rounds in, but last weekend in Calgary Tyler was very smooth and fast. Next to Alessi and Facciotti he was the best guy.

I hope that answers your question Ryan and thank you for sending it in. Finishing in the top three in the 2014 MX1 series is going to be tough this year with all the competition. However, once the series hits the east the riders will either face heat or rain, and sometimes both. This always separates the men from the boys, and in the end that determines who has success. Tyler has a proven track record of succeeding under the most adverse conditions. Another thing Tyler has proven is that you can never count him out because if you do then he will make you look like a fool. Thank you for reading this week’s Q and A and thank you to Yamaha Motor Canada Ltd. for their support.
