Rounds 1 & 2 Royal Distributing Canadian Enduro Championship

Rounds 1 & 2 of the Royal Distributing Canadian Enduro Championships took place at all new venue last weekend in Vernon, BC. The Vernon Off Road Motorcycle Club hosted an epic, well organized event that challenged and thrilled rid

The 45 km loop covered the mountain with thousands of feet in elevation changes, with three  excellent special tests.  The final test on the loop, the Rekluse Extreme Test, was a one minute walk from the pits which made it easy for spectators and the racers families to enjoy the action and cheer on their favorites.  World Enduro Canada announcer Trevor Wideman was up on the KTM tower with a bird’s eye view of the action, announcing riders as they came into the test and keeping the crowd interested.

At the end of day one KTM’s Bobby Prochnau was once again at the top of the E2 and Pro overall standings with Honda’s Jason Schrage in 2nd in both.  BC hotshot Tyler Murray won the E1 Class and was 3rd overall.  Filling out the E1 Podium was the factory Husqvarna team.  Captain Guy Giroux in 2nd and Philippe Chaine in 3rd. In E3 CGRT Husaberg rider Ben Rego topped the day with Thomas Cordner in 2nd and KTM’s Malcolm Hett in 3rd.  In EVet KTM’s Trent Burgiss topped local favorite KTM’s Mark Cahill.

There were lots of interesting results in the Amateur ranks as well.   One that stood out was the rising talent in the Women’s class.  There were 11 entries and KTM’s Shelby Turner and Chantelle Bykerk, who was just back from participating and getting on the podium at the Xgames Endurocross in Los Angeles, topped the gal many expected to win, GasGas rider Victoria Hett.   In the A Class Alberta’s Ben Riviere, who two years ago was the Canadian C Champion, took 8th but won the Rekluse Extreme test challenge by posting the fastest time for the day in the Rekluse Extreme test.

Day two once again saw KTM’s Bobby Prochnau at the top of the overall Pro standings and the top of the E2 Podium with Jason Schrage once again taking 2nd in both and Husqvarna rider Ryan Graffunder 3rd in both E2 and overall.   Josh Allen, Pro CMRC MX racer from BC, was 4th in E2 and many expected him to place higher due to his very aggressive riding.

In E1 Husqvarna team leader Guy Giroux showed the young kids he still has the jam by topping the podium ahead of BC’s Tyler Murray and Philippe Chaine from Quebec.  In E3 KTM’s Kevin Dyck took top spot ahead of CGRT Husaberg rider Ben Rego and KTM’s Malcolm Hett.
