MXP: Hey Colton, first off, can you tell us where you’re living these days?
CF: My family and I currently live Aylmer, Ontario.
What is something unique about your hometown?
Some people drive horse and buggies, Jocelyn won’t let me get one. (laughs)
Do you think you’ll want to retire in Aylmer when you’re done racing?
You never know where life will take you, I’m just going with the flow and I’ll see where I end up.
Do you remember how old you were when you first fell in love with dirt bikes?
I fell in love with dirt bikes instantly when I saw my cousin ride, so probably when I was about 4-years-old.
What is your first memory of riding?
There have been so many, but my best memories are going to the track and hanging out with my family and all the other racers, and probably causing trouble.
When was your first race and do you recall the result?
You would think I would know this but I can’t even recall. The first few years are all a blur, it was all about being a kid and having fun.

Do you think you will let your kids race when they’re older?
If they want to race then I’ll have no problem, but I certainly won’t push them to race. I’m pretty sure Keagan already wants to and he’s barely a year and a half old so I think I will have my hands full.
What do you do personally to mix up your training regime to make it less of a grind?
Training is always a grind, but yes, there are definitely ways to make it a bit more fun. I used to golf a lot but now that I have a kid, he takes up most of my spare time. I guess being a Dad is what really helps these days as it takes my mind off dirt bikes and helps to keep me fresh.
What’s the best advice you could give to any Amateur rider wanting to turn Pro?
Good question, I think the best thing they could do is take it step by step and surround yourself with good people.
That’s great advice Colton. Do you have any pre-race rituals that help you to relax and focus?
Not really, I like to be really calm on the starting line and just focus on the task at hand. It boggles my mind how some people yell and get pumped up before the gate drops, but I guess everyone has their own way.
Do you have a favourite sport besides Motocross and do you get the opportunity to partake in it?
I really love golf and I try to get out as much as possible. One day I’d like to have a membership and golf more, but for now I just get out when I have time.
What year did you turn Pro Colton?
If my math is correct I’d say 2002 and I would’ve been 14-years-old.
I remember that, you were very young. What surprised you the most about pro racing?
I think a few things, but mostly the longer motos, faster riders, and the stress of getting good results all of the time.
What have you had to work on the most since turning pro?
I think it’s an ongoing thing as every year I’m trying to work on my weaknesses as well as trying new things to better myself one step at a time.

You’ve had a very successful career so far, what is your best result so far in the pro class?
Without a doubt it’s winning my MX1 National titles.
What do you think you do really well on a dirt bike?
The best thing I think I do is ride the bike efficiently, which helps me be really smooth and consistent on the track.
What is your favourite Canadian National track?
Gopher Dunes, for sure!
What training tool could you not live without?
Probably my Xbox, I find that it really helps my hand eye coordination.
Who do you consider to be you’re biggest rival?
Everybody on the starting line.
In the next 20 years, how would you like to be remembered in this sport?
I think I’d like to remembered as a rider that gave it all on the track, and represented the sport well off the track.
