Over the years we’ve all heard many love/hate stories about the track in Nanaimo, BC. Riders either seem to have a good day on Vancouver Island, or a really bad day. However, as they say, everyone has to ride it and at the end of the day, every point matters. After all of the racing was done on Sunday, the red plate switched bikes in both classes as now Colton Facciotti and Cole Thompson will lead the points heading into round three in Calgary. As all of the riders tip-toe through the Western rounds, all are happy that the tough Nanaimo track in now in the rear view mirror. Thanks to James Lissimore and his awesome photos, we can look back at everything that happened at round two of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals.

Even though not a lot of people enjoy riding the Nanaimo track, everyone loves going to Vancouver Island with it’s beautiful scenery.

The state of Davi Millsaps rear tire gives you an idea of how bad the Nanaimo track was in the final MX1 moto.

After crashing in moto one and badly injuring his foot, he stormed back in moto two for a solid third place.

Brad Nauditt had his best race in a long time at round two and finished with an amazing third overall.

Here Cole Thompson stalks Mark Worth in the early stages of the opening MX2 moto.

Moments after this photo was taken all hell broke loose in the MX2 class. As the riders entered corner two both Jeremy Medaglia and Dylan Wright went down and were forced to DNF moto one.

One of these mechanics came into Nanaimo with the red plate, and the other left Nanaimo with the red plate. We can’t to see what happens this weekend in Calgary.

With each moto so far in the 2016 MX2 series, Casey Keast has been getting better and more comfortable. In Nanaimo he finished up with a very impressive 5-14 moto score and 8th overall.

Cole Thompson gets a post moto debrief from Team Manager JSR.

Perhaps JSR was tellling Cole how much he enjoyed watching his nac-nac over the finish line?

Here are three very happy MX2 riders on the podium in Nanaimo.

For the first time in like forever, Brett Metcalfe powered his way to both holeshots in the MX1 class.

Considering that he isn’t completely comfortable yet on his new Yamaha, Brett Metcalfe is right in the middle of the MX1 points battle after two rounds.

Tyler may be a little under powered off the start on his Husqvarna FC350, but once the moto begins Tyler is as fast and as fun to watch as anyone on the track.

Like Millsaps, Matt Goerke also got docked ten spots for jumping on a red cross flag in the opening moto. The 2015 MX1 champ did come back in moto two and finished with a strong fourth.

So far in 2016 Davi Millsaps has been the fasted rider in the MX1 class. However, a small error in moto one resulted in Davi getting docked ten spots. In moto two, Millsaps came out and dominated the entire moto to limit the damage on the day.

In both Kamloops and Nanaimo, our Canadian hero Colton Facciotti has rode fast and extremely smart while taking advantage of other riders mistakes. This is why he will wear the red plate this weekend in Calgary.

Brett Metcalfe was definitely happy with his day on Vancouver Island.
