MXP: What is your hometown Matt?
MG: Lake Helen, Florida.
What is something unique thing about your hometown?
Nothing that I can think of, it’s just a small town out in the woods between Daytona and Orlando.
Do you remember how old you were when you first fell in love with dirt bikes?
I think I was about 5-years-old.

What was your first riding memory?
It’s hard to remember, but I remember riding my PW50 at the local tracks in Florida. The first time was probably at my grandparent’s house or something like that.
When was your first race and what was the result?
I think my first race was at Hard Rock in Florida, and I don’t remember what place I finished. The first race I won was at Bithlo a short time later.
What was your favourite track growing up?
I used to ride at Bithlo and Pax Trax a lot when I was younger. My favourite race track was Loretta Lynn’s though.
What do you personally do to mix up your training regime to make it less of a grind?
Take mini vacations with Erin (girlfriend) and our dogs, and go stay at the beach, Big Bear, or somewhere like that.
What’s the best advice you could give to any amateur wanting to turn pro?
You will have setbacks for sure, but try keep a positive outlook and things will turn around!
Do you have any personal pre-race rituals that help you relax & focus?
Yes, I have a whole routine I do before every race. My eating, relaxing and getting ready are all usually in the same order before each race.
What is your favourite sport besides Motocross and do you get the opportunity to partake in it?
I watch all sports, but I don’t really have a favourite besides racing.

What surprised you the most about pro racing?
Definitely Supercross whoops when I first saw them. They were tough and scary at first, but after you get them down they’re easy most of the time
What things have you had to work on the most since turning pro?
Everything! You are constantly working on everything from skills, fitness, diet, etc. to be better.
What is your best result so far in the pro class?
I’ve won two Canadian National Championships and those definitely mean a lot to me. Also, my best single race result was a win at Southwick National in 2009.
What do you think you do really well on a dirt bike?
Good question; I’d say supercross whoops, sand rollers and any other type of whoops.
What is your favourite Canadian National track?
Of course Gopher Dunes! I can’t wait to race there this coming summer.

What training tool could you not live without?
Heart Rate Monitor.
Who are some of your biggest rivals?
Colton Facciotti and Brett Metcalfe were last year and I’m sure they’ll be very fast again in 2016. I’m sure there will be a few more riders this summer to add to that list.
What is your favourite music?
I would say Country music or Hiphop, depending on my mood.
What is your favourite city to visit?
Without a doubt that would be Cabo!
Okay Matt, final question. In 20 years, how would you like to be remembered in this sport?
Someone that people can count on to perform their best in all situations.
