MXP: This weekend is the final round of the 2023 Triple Crown Series in Calgary. You’re going to be there as your son Meston is racing. It’s been quite a series in Canada, and it will be good to wrap it up in one of the nicest cities on the circuit. For you, what have been some of the highlights and lowlights of the 2023 Triple Crown Series, and where do you see things heading next year?
RL: The highlight for me was this summer, seeing great spectator turnouts at most of the nationals, especially on the East Coast. This is something that has been missing for a while, but the attendance this summer was strong and had that vibe that was missing the past few years. The lowlight for me was starting the series with Edmonton. We have discussed this before, and while it could work, not for Round 1 of a national series. As far as what’s next? Well, when things ended off in Walton, everything seemed positive from the Jetwerx guys. It will be good to catch up with them this weekend and see what the plans are for 2024. It would be great to see a 2024 Triple Crown Series schedule soon.

MXP: The Nutrien Centre is a cool venue for SX/AX with a slightly larger floor than a traditional arena. Who are you expecting to do well on Saturday night?
RL: It’s pretty hard to bet against Mitchell Harrison right now. He is undefeated, and I don’t see that changing. I think Quinn Amyotte could give him a run if he can get a good start. We saw a much improved and confident Julian Benek a few weeks back. He has continued to work hard, so he will also be good.

MXP: Last week, we had a Canadian legend, Wally Levy, who suddenly passed away. Wally was one of those guys that everyone liked as he was a very nice man, and he did a lot for the sport in Canada. What do you think Wally will be most remembered for?
RL: This one is tough to take, for sure. Wally was awesome. The guy loved motocross and followed it super close, that’s for sure. From a racer in his day to a race announcer to working at shops and being an all-around great guy, Wally will be missed by all of us. RIP Wally!
