MXP: Hey Newf! Let’s get right at it and talk about Anaheim 1. Overall, what did you think about the racing, and which rider or riders do you think stood out?

RL: It was one of the better opening rounds I have watched. I liked the track with how busy it was and the long lap times. When you have the top five in the 450 class only being separated by less than 10 seconds at the finish is great news for the racing.  I think we all thought that it was going to be the Jett and Haiden show coming in so with their struggles it made it even that much better for us fans. I was very impressed with Ken Roczen and Justin Hill in the 450s. In the 250s, Ju Ju (Beaumer) and Ryder D were both awesome and much improved over last year.

Blake Davies came close to making the night show at A1. Newf feels like he will do better at SD.

MXP: Our Canadian riders had a solid day at the opening round. Unfortunately, St-Cyr had a practice crash and was forced to sit out the rest of the day. How do you think our boys rode at Anaheim 1?

RL: Yes that sucks big time for St-Cyr as he put in a lot of time during the off-season, but as we all know that’s racing. Cole Thompson was great but quiet. I would rank him better than last year as a Top 10 at the opening round is awesome. Preston Masciangelo was better than I maybe thought he would be. I could see Preston in some main events before the end of the series. Noah Viney had speed and started well, which is the key to qualifying for main events. Blake Davies made a rookie mistake and misjudged that final qualifier and missed the night show by just three spots. He will make the night show this weekend as he’s plenty good enough to accomplish that and also be on the bubble of making main events.

MXP: Looking ahead to the Rimbey AX in a few weeks. This event has been growing steadily for the past few years. What can we expect this year, and if any riders are on the fence about going, why should they consider it?

RL: It’s coming quickly and things seem to be shaping up well. These guys do a great job and that’s the reason why it keeps growing. They have a much larger Pro purse than last year and the dash for cash each night is huge. There will be some announcements very soon of some big-name pros coming which I think will make everyone excited. The reason Pros should go is very simple. Gate drops and make some money in a time that is very quiet in Canadian MX. Invest in yourself and try and get your name out there. Also, if you’re a ‘pro’ rider than one of your goals should be to try and make money!
