My race report is a little late, but I have EQAO (grade 3 tests) at school right now.
Laps, Laps, Laps, that is what I have been up to and spending time at Sand-Del-Lee after a long weekend at the cottage. Last week KT and the MX101 crew made some BIG CHANGES to the track. That is a huge step up is all we heard! Some of you might remember I am trying to qualify for Loretta’s US Nationals in June so I need to find some more speed (My Wheelsport Nihilo equipped 50 SXS and 65 SX are fast stock bikes, but I need to get faster) so I have been training with my friend Jairred Killeen, and he is speedy. We practiced 2 nights and both really liked the new track, but he hit the ground hard in front of me and was off to the hospital for xrays of his arm (still no answer from Doc), he told me to get back out there and he would be there to watch the weekend Sand-Del-Lee Walton ANQ races.
Saturday morning Jairred was there to cheer me on. I love this track, and decided my KTM 65 SX would be the right bike for me to race in 85 also (since I am too small for an 85). I raced 6 motos each day (50 7-8, 65 7-9, 85 7-11) and have the blisters to prove it. I always wear a different colour FOX gear, so Saturday was FOX Future Red gear day and Sunday would be Fox Future Green, OAKLEY Mayhem goggles lots of tear offs and my New Bell Moto 9 helmets from Kimpex.
Saturday was super hot, and the racing was really tough. I went 1-1 for 1st overall in 50 7-8. Then I had the best 65 7-8 motos ever battling with Zach Reid for the lead, Saturday I pushed him hard and he slid out on the high speed sweeper and I got 1st in moto 1 and in moto 2 I tried to pass him but he held me off and I got 2nd but I took 1st overall. Then in 85 7-11 I got a great start, but while running hard in 4th my bike came to a stop. Time to get a new mechanic! (not really, just another learning experience for Dad and I and the Gas can) moto 2 I had a good start running up front finishing 8th but placing 14th in my first 85 race. Then it was time to be kids again and play soccer and water gun fights.
Sunday I was Super Pumped! My Grandma and Grandpa showed up to watch me race! I was really focused and went 1-1 for 1st in 50 7-8, but Jacob Kolman pulled a big holeshot in moto 2. I was ready for 65 and again Zach and I fought hard for the holeshot in both motos, each getting one and then changing places a few times for the lead he won moto 1 by a few bike lengths. Moto 2 I rode up from a bad start and he could hear me, then he said it was silent as I went down on a big braking bump and was stuck under my bike until KT came and pulled it off me. I got up and was 35 seconds back from Zack, 27 from Esteban Racine, and 20 behind Adam Damm. I managed get up to Adam and made a pass with 2 corners to go taking 3rd. We all congratulated each other at the finish! Then in 85 I had a great start almost holeshotting moto 1, I had some really good battles with Bjorn Viney and Cameron Pytel but they slipped by and gapped me with their 85’s I went 7 – 6 for 7th. How do 9 year olds celebrate after a race on a hot day? Ice Cream!
Thanks Leah and Rory for packing my gates, Stephane Chagnon (Studio 10th Line) for the pictures, and Grandma, Grandpa, Mom and Karen for cheering me on and to everyone for telling me how good I was racing this weekend. Dad you are still the best mechanic!
