The Wastelands: Ground Zero for Rockstar Energy Drinks
Motofest Launch
Nanaimo, BC’s Wastelands Motocross Park, one of Canada’s premier motocross tracks, is rapidly gearing up for Round 1 of the Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals, which kick off Saturday, May 31.
The Wastelands has also been selected to launch a new endeavour geared to introduce a wider audience to the intensity, thrills and spills of CMRC Pro Motocross, via the power of rock music. Aptly dubbed Rockstar Energy Drink Motofest, this new initiative will bring live music to four selected National Rounds for which Wastelands Motocross Park will be the official launch site.
The other three venues that will be hosting Motofest will be Moto Valley Raceway in Regina, SK; Gopher Dunes, Courtland, ON; and Riverglade MX Park, Moncton, NB. While Nanaimo, Regina, and Gopher Dunes will have the Rockstar Energy Drink Pro Nationals/Motofest staged on Saturday, Moncton will remain on Sunday due to the fact it is on a long weekend.
“We at CMRC are very enthused about our association with Rockstar Energy Drink as the new title sponsor of the Motocross Nationals. Together we have been busy behind the scenes since last fall, collaborating to promote the growth of the series and attract a wider following of which Motofest is just one aspect,” said CMRC President Mark Stallybrass.
Headlining the inaugural Rockstar Energy Drink Motofest at The Wastelands will be indie rock band Tokyo Police Club. The band, which was founded in early 2005 in Newmarket, ON, is one of Canada’s leading indie rock bands and has a worldwide following. They cut their teeth playing venues in and around the Toronto area.
In the fall of 2005, Tokyo Police Club performed at Pop Montreal Music Festival and from then on their star started rapidly rising. Four CDs later – the most recent, Forcefield, was released on March 24, 2014 – two appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman, and numerous festival appearances in Canada, the U.S., Germany, Denmark, and the U.K. to name a handful, Tokyo Police Club will rock Nanaimo as the featured Motofest act.
Opening for Tokyo Police Club will be another top Canadian indie rock band, Yukon Blonde, and the grunge-rock band We Hunt Buffalo. Kelowna’s Yukon Blonde has released four CDs since their inception in 2005 as Alphababy (they changed their name to Yukon Blonde in 2009), have toured extensively throughout Canada and the U.S., and are also music festival favourites.
Vancouver’s We Hunt Buffalo, which has released three CDs to date, continue to strive to play dirty, grimy rock ’n’ roll in the manner of their original west coast grunge influences. They are certain to keep the music mix, along with Tokyo Police Club and Yukon Blonde, above par at the Nanaimo Motofest.
Also on an action packed roster at Nanaimo will be a hair-raising performance by the Rockstar Energy Drink Milot Land Tour. With over 40 dates, the 4th Annual Rockstar Energy Milot Land Tour has become the biggest Freestyle Motocross tour in Canada. The team will perform at three of the Rockstar Motocross Energy Drink Motocross Nationals/Motofest events with some of the best Canadian and U.S. freestylers including Ben Milot, Reagan Seig, Steel Cutter and Jeff Fehr. Slated for Nanaimo are Reagan Seig and Jeff Fehr. Their terrifying aerial manoeuvres and back flips will certainly keep the audience pumped throughout the night.
“I am hugely excited for this new alignment with a prestigious motocross championship, which has made major strides in the past few years. The level of competition has risen, and with it, so has the draw for new talent. We believe the 2014 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals will be the most dynamic and exciting season to date,” said Jason May, Executive Vice President – Marketing for Rockstar, Inc.
Racing at Nanaimo is set to start at noon and expected to run until approximately 4:30 pm. The first freestyle show is slated for around 5 pm, followed by the opening music act, another freestyle performance, then the second band, another freestyle performance, and then the featured band to wrap up Motofest around 9:30 pm.
