OUT OF THE GATE: Dylan Wright makes the short trip for long weekend racing at the Quebec provincials in Ste Véronique!

While many dedicate their May long weekend to planting gardens and other Spring tasks, Dylan Wright was hard at work churning up some dirt of his own at the Rivière Rouge Motocross track in Ste. Véronique, Québec. The CMRC / AMXQ hosted their first Quebec provincial races of the year on Saturday and Sunday May 18th and 19th.

Dylan Wright lined-up at the gate with one clear goal in mind, to see where he stands against his Quebec rivals. On Saturday, Dylan competed in the Youth and Pro-Am MX3 classes alongside pro racers such as Kaven Benoit, Stanly Clair and Michael Dasilva. With his feet planted solidly on the foot pegs of his Yamaha YZ 250, Dylan kept pace with the front runners on their 450s. With only fractions of a second separating each racer’s fastest lap time, spectators were treated to some excellent racing.

After twelve laps in the Pro-Am MX3 class, Dylan finished second in moto 1 behind Kaven Benoit.  A first turn pile up in moto 2, which left Dylan in last place, forced him to put his head down and battle back through the pack of 34 racers on the track. After lap one, he was already in 23rd. Lap by lap, he skillfully passed riders and gradually moved up to 17th … 13th … 10th and eventually finished in 6th place. This earned him a 5th place overall in the class.

With many of the same racers participating in the Youth class, the battles continued. Wright topped the podium with the win in moto 1 and came in second behind Stanly Clair in moto 2. These results were good enough to earn Dylan the overall win.

On Sunday, Dylan shifted his focus to his intermediate Quebec rivals who would likely be vying for the Canadian Intermediate championship titles at the Walton TransCan this coming August.  Dylan got the hole shot and had a commanding lead in all four motos, proving to himself and his competitors that he is a force to be reckoned with. He finished 1-1 in the Intermediate MX2 class. While, Wright earned the top spot in moto one  of the Intermediate MX3 class, he was only able to complete 4 laps of moto 2 after Dylan clipped a lapper who unwisely tried to change lines off a jump. A broken throttle tube and cable brought Dylan’s race to an abrupt and unfortunate end.

Despite this mishap, the short trip to Ste. Véronique for the long weekend of racing proved to be worth the effort. MX101, Yamaha Canada, FOX Canada, and EKS brand goggles have got to be pleased with their young rider’s results. Wright has proven that he can, and will, compete with Canada’s top riders. It will be interesting to see if he can repeat this past weekend’s performance in upcoming match-ups.

While the mechanic has some work cut out for him after the Quebec provincial racing, the good news is … no injuries for the rider. Dylan is healthy and looking forward to rounds 3 and 4 of the Eastern Ontario Walton TransCan Amateur National Qualifiers at his home track of Sand Del Lee this coming weekend, May 25th and 26th.
