Denaye Giroux Blog: What Happens in Vegas

Hey everyone and welcome to my first blog for MXP. Over the summer I will be talking about everything from the trips I’ve taken to the CMRC Women’s National. Basically everything the women of Canadian Motocross want to read about, well hopefully anyway.

For those of you who don’t know me, I have been around the motocross scene my whole life. I have raced the women’s national series since it started back in 2006, and clinched my first championship in 2011. My Dad, Roland, has always been a big part of my racing career, but we will talk about that and my family in one of the next blogs. This is all about my epic weekend in Vegas!

There were two reasons for this trip: first was for my good friend Camille Baker’s bachelorette party, and second, it was for the Vegas Supercross. Unfortunately three days before the trip Camille tore her ACL, but that wasn’t going to hold her back. She was a trooper and changed her MRI until the following week. She crutched her way around for the first day, and rented a wheelchair for the rest of the weekend.

 I think this picture sums up a good night. We found this table outside of Camille’s room. We thought it would be a great idea to push her down to the limo on this bad boy. As we made our way through the hotel lobby and casino, most people were amused by this and more amused by Camille shouting “SUPERCROSS!” The reply from most people was priceless, while others were wondering what the heck was wrong with these girls. The bachelorette party was a huge hit. Let’s leave it at that.

The next day was Supercross. Before the trip, Camille made all the girls from the bachelorette party make a “keys to the race” shirt (just like the Ricky, Ralph, and Jeff do at each round) here is what we came up with:

Erica- bust big – ride it like you stole it
Sandy – breathe – maintain stamina
Denaye – go big or go home – keep it dirty
Camille- dig deep – hammer down
Robin – take the Wholeshot – pound the humps
Yenny – heavy on the throttle – yard sale
Megan – swail it – don’t tear your ACL
Missy – grip it and rip it – what’s the worst that could happen

At this point we were all waiting for our bus to come pick us up. For some reason the bus never showed up so we ended up taking four cabs to get there, and made it just in time for the opening ceremonies.

We had a really good view from where we were sitting. It was just after the triple before they head back out of the stadium. I am so glad we got to watch this one at the stadium. It came down to the wire for the championships, and there was some awesome racing to be watched. The only other Supercross I had been to before this was the Toronto Supercross, not saying there is anything wrong with that race, but this one is a race that everyone should go to at least once in their life.

The rest of the weekend was spent site seeing and cruising the strip. Overall it was a great weekend. The countdown is now on for the Canadian Nationals and I can’t wait. Thank you for reading and I’ll talk to you next week.
