For whatever reason, Canadian motocross and drama always seems to go hand in hand, at least a few times a year. Last season we saw it a few times with things really blowing up in Quebec City when Cole Thompson decimated Colton Facciotti in the final turn. This year, things have remained pretty calm on the race track for the most part. Well, that was until the 20-minute mark in the final 450 moto last weekend when Phil Nicoletti’s pass attempt on Mike Alessi didn’t go very well. Was Alessi at fault for being too aggressive? Should Phil have known that Alessi wasn’t going to play nice? At this point, we’re quite sure both riders wished they had made different choices in the closing stages of Moto 2.
Unfortunately, this has taken away from how incredible the racing was throughout the day at Sand Del Lee. Dylan Wright was once again on fire, Tyler Medaglia led the first 250 moto for 10 minutes, and Jess Pettis did the same in Moto 2. Colton Facciotti was solid again, and Matt Goerke rebounded after an awful race the week before to win the final moto of the day. All of this was done while the temperatures were a scorching 40c. With all of the drama behind us, now we can look ahead to Round 6 at Riverglade Raceway, a race that everyone looks forward to each year. However, before we do, here are a few James Lissimore photos from Sand Del Lee.
