It has been a solid start to 2012 from my perspective and from the feedback I have been getting from different ends of the industry, it seems more people are looking forward to this year getting better and moving forward… why not? The whole theory of an apocalypse this year has not scared and slowed people down but intensified the belief to get out and live life and be happy. That has been my belief after being introduced to my first Surfer Magazine and my very own Honda MiniMoto QR50 in ‘83. I wanted and conquered to be the dirt bike kid living on the beach with tanned beautiful people.
Where the “stoked” started
Down in South Carolina where I stayed from time to time, we have had a few beach night Moto sessions where the thrill of riding on a moon lit beach stayed in your mind forever. The first of the highly illegal nights was between Jeff Cutler and Ryan Gauld. They took off from my beach house and over the rocks, in full button-up bar attire and helmets of course, onto the beach and were gone into the night. On return, Cutler had a clean ride into the house with lights out while Gauldy came back with a side limp and pushing his bike. It seemed that the beauty of the moon lit water and waves distracted the Yamaha Pilot at the time and cart wheeled over a Catamaran Sailboat. With no time to hold back, Gauldy later explained that he held onto the gas to keep the engine going while going over the boat through the air for a quick escape. We literally got away with it all by seconds as up to 10 cop cars flooded the streets with spotlights only meters away from us. I do have some live footage of this that will come up another time.

Just another day tanning and riding in the hot South
This week the qualifiers for the 2012 Red Bull Crashed ice were held in Quebec. My girl Kristen and I headed down to the MasterCard Center in Toronto for this and both were excepted as walk ons and had a great night. There were over 200 entries and was they were based on a heat where you had two chances to get your fastest time. It was run very well with the Red Bull girls on the scoring systems and another twenty guys on the ice for course maintenance, DJ, and MC. They were only accepting one girl for the whole twenty that showed up and only ten guys. This is now happening all across Canada and you can get more information from www.REDBULL.com
Kristen getting psyched
Kristen was great in her heat and ended up with a 6th overall finish only 3 seconds off the 1st place finisher, Thibault. On the other hand, I had to wait till the midnight hour for the last heat of the night that they almost cancelled. The time to beat was a 23.3 and I was sure I had a good chance. The times to beat were in the first heats of the night of course on clean smooth ice by the automatic seeds from last year having first crack. Not only did they get first on ice but they had a pre-practice day previous to the event. Anyways, this is my justifiable excuse for me not qualifying. I was only 1 second off with a 24.4 and had to deal with the deep ruts and snow. I am far from done at this sport and will get another chance at the big leagues on blades.

I was able to catch up with Dave Kermaxx this week in Alberta who always seems to have a good peppy attitude. Kermaxx is currently sponsoring the Alberta Arenacross series that is going on this weekend in Lethbridge, AB and a host of riders throughout Canada. Our discussions were based on Canadian supporting Canadian companies. This, I believe, has been a major downfall for our sport and we need to search more within the borders for great products like what Kermaxx offers in Canada.
GIO bikes is my China affiliate for motocross, dirt bikes and scooters. They are pushing to enter the market as a serious brand with a highly competitive cost. The motocross model X37 is coming around with improved horsepower. It is heavier than the traditional Japanese bikes and has less power that is more suitable for the beginner or weekend warrior not looking to pound motos. There are many other models of dirt bikes for having fun and covering rugged land that suit everyone for the right price.
You will see that on their site has replacement parts for all brands and listing the usable Honda parts.
