This week’s Monday Maniac is Gauldy-less for our special Super Bowl hangover edition. It is a sad day here in the Lee house. We have stepped across a line that officially declares we are getting older. We all fell asleep before the end of the game, despite it being a great game down the stretch. Such is life. Thankfully, Jay and Dan got us through the morning with all the highlights on TSN and I can at least fake conversations with my buddies at hockey tonight. Pretty weak.
Momentum: Lots of talk from the Super Bowl about the momentum Baltimore had before the lights went out. Their foot was on the throat of the 49ers and most of San Francisco knew it. However, fate stepped in and in this case a power surge cut the lights in the huge dome, which is when things changed direction. Momentum also changed direction at this weekend’s A3 Monster Energy Supercross. Ryan Villopoto seemed to have it all going his way in the past three weeks; 2-1-1 in recent weeks had everyone talking about when Villopoto would take the red plate back from Rockstar’s Davi Milsaps. However, after some bad luck and a crash, just like that Villopoto logs a poor 8th place finish. He is third in the points and has more work to do to get another crack at the championship lead.
Davi Milsaps. What can you say about the duke right now? Here is a lesson for those that are reading this and asking what you can do to become a better motocrosser in 2013. Get fit, get intensely fit. Milsaps has put the work in; matched with his talent, he is without question the most consistent rider in the 2013 series. He is often the fastest, but that isn’t the big surprise as he been fast at times before. In 2013 he looks better in all areas of racing, and without question deserves to be leading the series. I think he can accredit it all to fitness. This is the Milsaps people were hyped about for years now. He will be in this till the end. Back to our theme of momentum:
If momentum was going for Villopoto in recent weeks, it was going against Dungy. It seemed crashes and luck, which ultimately affected his confidence, had him a notch off the top guys. Saturday was shaping up to be another chapter in 2013. A blown shock in qualifier 1 meant he didn’t make it to the first corner. Then in his LCQ, he gets gathered in a huge crash and has to charge through the pack to secure the final transfer spot. He had to be wondering where all this poor luck was coming from. In the main, he breaks out a big holeshot and led wire to wire. He is now second in the points, and if he can put another result together, it could be yet another momentum swing in one of the most fascinating seasons in supercross history.
Here in Canada, the only racing going on was in the barns of BC; the KTM Canada Arenacross series. Ryan Abrigo and Brad Nauditt came away the winners but Spencer Knowles still sits in the championships lead. Not sure what sparked this, but Ryan Lockhart announced his retirement from professional racing this weekend and decided to park his Cycle North Kawasaki. From his Facebook page, Ryan said, “Thanks to everyone for their support last night, it was great. I’m not done racing, I have just realized that riding at a level that you are not comfortable with anymore is not worth the risk. I’m an age class guy.” The guy was awesome this year at Walton TransCan, a ton of fun to have there, and I hope we see him back running the number one plate at Walton this year. Cycle North has not wasted much time in finding a replacement. Former MX2 champion Sean Hamblin will be lining up on the Cycle North Kawasaki for the last two races.
Dusty Klatt also posted a picture on instagram/twiiter (love social media) of a very swollen leg. Klatt has a lot on the line this year and everyone I have talked to says he has his eye on winning a championship. Here is what we got from Twitter. Let’s hope he is okay and the Campbell River Crusher is set for 2013.
Dusty Klatt @Dustyklatt Wish I never came here! Could might have just thrown my season out the window. Wasn’t that worth it… pic.twitter.com/1SJ4fPHE

If you are a fan of old school, the guys in BC started a Facebook page called, and Chris Lee followed that up with a Ontario one. Both are awesome and great for anyone to post some old school photos or share a story. How about this one from CMRC’s Mark Stallybrass on a photo of Damon Bradshaw, Ross Pederson and Mike Larocco at Toronto Supercross. Make sure you check out the links before and share on either page. Pretty cool the way facebook can connect people.

Mark Stallybrass “A memorable weekend: Made my Japanese bosses happy bysweeping both nights (Larocco’s first career SX win won the other night), met my wife that weekend, pissed off Rollerball cause the best he could do was second, and got puked on by Mickey Dymond in Yamaha’s van after a party.”
