RM Motorsports /MX101/Yamaha Round #1 Nanaimo Race Report

Stittsville, ON (June 3 2013) – The first round of the Monster Energy Pro Nationals took place in beautiful Nanaimo, BC, this past weekend.  Filled with all the excitement and anticipation of the professional series kickoff, the facility was a buzz with all the unknowns and speculation of racers and fans alike.

The RM Motorsports /MX101/Yamaha team was excited to get the year going to show all of the hard work the team and riders Jeremy Medaglia and Shawn Robinson had put in through the long winter.  Jeremy surprised many people when he signed up to race both classes in true ironman fashion.   The idea to double class had been in the works for months behind the scenes, with countless hours being spent getting two race bikes ready to go for the season opener.  Shawn Robinson is riding MX1 and is looking to become a threat for a top 10 National number.

Unfortunately, Jeremy’s day was quickly in jeopardy, with a huge crash in his first MX2 practice.  Thankfully, Jeremy’s Atlas brace and Fox helmet did what they are designed to do and he was left only sore and bruised from a crash that could have been much worse.  MX1 practice saw both Jeremy and Shawn on the track at the same time and they easily qualified in 8th and 13th respectively.

Moto 1 saw both riders get off the line to almost identical starts as the riders finished lap one in 14th and 15th.  Jeremy would start to find a rhythm and ride through the pain from his earlier crash, putting himself into 6th by the end of the moto.  Shawn finished a strong 17th, with his lap times improving throughout the moto leaving him in high spirits for moto 2.

Moto 2 saw a much better start for Jeremy as he started just inside the top 10.  Shawn was again in 15th place and ready to go to work.  Unfortunately, Shawn had to pull out just past half way in the race while in 16th.  Jeremy battled the entire race moving up to 3rd finally on the last lap, giving him 3rd overall for the day.  Jeremy was still hurting from his morning crash and showed the tremendous heart and dedication the RM Motorsports /MX101/Yamaha team has seen in Jeremy since day 1.

“It was a strange day with the crash in MX2, and being so battered and bruised, that I knew that I had to just gut it out in the MX1 motos to salvage as many points as I could.  Obviously I am super happy to come away with a 3rd overall on the day and a week to recuperate” said Jeremy.

“I knew today would be tough as I was unable to ride during the week in preparation due to the injury the week before, but I know I belong fighting within the top 10 and plan to prove it” said Robinson.

The series heads to Kamloops, BC, next weekend so be sure to swing by the transporter for a poster and picture with the riders.

The team is proudly supported by: RM motorsports, MX101, Yamaha Canada, Robinson Bros., SSS suspension, Shift, Fox, Decal Works, Atlas, Matrix, Drummonds Fuel, Dunlop, and Powersports Canada
