Yamaha Motor Canada Presents Behind the Lens From MX Bon Conseil

From the moment it was announced that the Ulverton track would be unable to host Round 6 of the 2017 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals, the work began immediately on the MX Bon-Conseil facility. For two months the crew feverishly worked to ensure that the track, the spectating area and the paddock were as good as they could be to be ready to host a pro national.

All of the work definitely paid off as the racing at Round 6 was incredible. On the sandy, rutted and very demanding track, the riders battled hard all day long. In the MX2 class, it was Shawn Maffenbeier who took advantage of some bad luck suffered by points leader Cole Thompson to take his fourth win of the year. In doing so, Maffenbeier climbed to within two points of the lead with just four rounds remaining. In the MX1 class, Colton Facciotti made it a Canadian sweep as he took his first overall win in over a year in the premier class. Now the riders keep moving east to scenic Truro, NS for Round 7. To get a look at everything that went down at MX Bon-Conseil, here is this week’s FXR Racing Behind the Lens featuring photos by James Lissimore.

After a solid fifth in the opening MX1 moto, Mike Alessi took an off track excursion on the opening lap of Moto 2 while running in third. Once he removed himself from deep in woods, Alessi charged hard to finish in seventh.

Racing in his backyard, Kaven Benoit excited the crowd with a solid second in the opening MX1 moto. Unfortunately, while running third in the Moto 2 Benoit crashed hard and suffered a laceration of his liver. It certainly has been a tough year for the two time MX2 Champion.

Before the day began, Kaven Benoit was very excited to race in front of his hometown fans.

Benoit’s home track certainly didn’t lack deep sand ruts.

The trophies for Round 6 were very cool.

With how well Colton Facciotti has been riding this year, everyone knew that as soon as he got his starts figured out that he would start winning motos.

On a track that seemed to suit Colton’s smooth riding style, he went 1-3 for the overall win in the MX1 class.

Colton and his 2017 CRF450R are really starting to come together.

Just prior to the start of the MX1 moto, the riders have their focus tested.

The cool MX Bon-Conseil track wasn’t the only nice thing to look at on Sunday.

With speed that was slightly off Facciotti and Pourcel, MX1 points leader Matt Goerke rode smooth to finish in 3rd overall.

During the past few weeks, Jacob Hayes has had the speed to run up front and win motos. Unfortunately, a few mistakes have kept him from having the results he deserves.

With Josh Osby back on the ground and charging towards a moto win, Shawn Maffenbeier looks like a plane coming in for a cross wind landing.

With Cole Thompson having a very rough day at Round 6, Shawn Maffenbeier did what he needed to do and now sits just two points out of the MX2 class lead.

The top three in the MX1 class are ready to cut down some Quebec trees.

Its awesome when the tracks make up some really cool and unique trophies.

Somehow we don’t think that Josh Osby cares about the chaos going on behind him.

It was cool to see young BC rider Jonah Brittons holeshot the opening MX2 moto.

Josh Osby has quietly been having an incredible season in the MX2 class. At Round 6, Osby won the opening moto, but then got docked for jumping on a red cross flag. However, in Moto 2 he came back strong and took his first official moto win of 2017.

For the past four decades Quebec has always loved it’s motocross racing.

As we saw out west a few times, Christophe Pourcel was in a class by himself in the second MX1 moto on Sunday.

After battling Matt Goerke in the early part of the second MX1 moto, Pourcel found some good lines and took off for the moto win. With four rounds remaining, Pourcel sits just eight points back of Goerke for the MX1 points lead.

Yes the MX Bon-Conseil track had ruts, lots and lots of ruts.

Not really known as sand rider, Ryan Surratt had a good day in Quebec and finished up in 4th overall.

With just a few short months to prepare, the MX Bon-Conseil crew did an incredible job on the track and the facility.

After struggling to a tenth in the opening MX1 moto, Tyler Medaglia came back strong in Moto 2 to finish in fourth.

Dylan Wright had another solid day at Round 6 and for the third week in a row he found himself on the MX2 podium.
