Yamaha Motor Canada Presents Behind the Lens from Sand Del Lee

Over the years, whenever our National Series has visited the Sand Del Lee track, we’ve always witnessed great racing in all classes. Well, this past weekend was much of the same as Round 5 of the Rockstar Energy Triple Crown MXTour Series visited this historic track. In the 250 Pro/Am class fans got to see one of their hometown favourites take the overall win. From the moment he arrived at the SDL track Dylan Wright was focused and determined to win in front of his family and friends. After battling from behind in both motos, Wright used a solid 2-2 moto score to take the win over Joey Crown and Shawn Maffenbeier.

In the 450 class, GDR Fox Honda rider Colton Facciotti battled not only his competition, but also some poor health to win the overall. Colton finished second behind Kaven Benoit in the opening 450 moto and then came back and dominated Moto 2 to take his third overall win of the season. He will now carry a seven point lead into Round 6 at his GDR Fox Honda Team’s home track, Gopher Dunes. As he always is, James Lissimore was front and centre at Sand Del Lee and sent us these incredible photos for this week’s Yamaha Motor Canada Behind the Lens.

It was great to back at Sand Del Lee Raceway for Round 5 of the Rockstar Energy Triple Crown MXTour Series.

The MX101 crew had the SDL track looking great on Saturday morning.

After winning five 450 motos in a row, Kaven Benoit went down at the start of Moto 2 and had to battle back from dead last.

Cade Clason had an okay day at Round 5, but he sure looked great in his new 2019 FXR Racing gear.

After falling ill on Friday evening, Colton Facciotti had to dig very deep at SDL to take his third win of the season.

Colton’s son give his dad a big smile after his big second moto win.

Joey Crown has been one of the most consistent riders in the 250 Pro/Am class so far this season. At SDL, Crown won the opening moto and ended up finishing second overall.

Dillan Epstein was more than happy to be back on the rough tracks of the east.

Matt Goerke was fast at Round 5 and ended up in third overall.

Hayden Halstead saved his best finish of the season so far for his team’s home track.

Knowing that his closest rival in the 250 Pro/Am points Jess Pettis had DNF’d the opening moto, Shawn Maffenbeier played it safe and ended up third overall.

Nothing makes a tired rider feel better after a long moto then a kiss from their child.

Tyler Medaglia had his strongest ride of season at his former home track and ended up second overall.

It was great to see Jeremy Medaglia back on the race track at Round 5 and he looked great all day.

Josh Osby looked okay at Round 5, but he played second fiddle to his sand loving teammate.

After suffering a DNF in the opening moto, Jess Pettis came back and dominated the second 250 Pro/Am moto.

One thing that is given in professional motocross, winning is never easy.

Tyler Medaglia’s team gave his KX450 the retro look for Round 5.

Derek Schuster was definitely a happy man after both his riders won at SDL.

Once again at Round 5, Cole Thompson and Matt Goerke battled in both motos.

Racing in his first ever pro national, Ontario rider Jake Tricco rode well in both motos and proved that he’s ready for the pro class.

Heading into Turn 2 during the second moto start, Shawn Maffenbeier dives to the inside of Tanner Ward.

Racing with a very heavy heart, Tanner Ward rode very well at Round 5 and went 4-15 for 7th overall in the 250 Pro/Am class.

Dylan Wright had quite the day at his former home track and the fans loved watching him take home the win.

Winning is that much sweeter when you do it the hard way.
