FXR Racing Presents Final Lap with Curtis Connor

Monster Energy Supercross rolled into the Motor City on Saturday night and what a crazy night of racing it was. Saturday was the second stop for the Triple Crown Series and Round 8 for the Monster Energy Supercross Championship.

Saturday did not disappoint from the 1st 250 main to the 3rd 450 main Detroit was packed with good racing. The first 250 main was action right from the start. Austin Forkner on the #24 got the Holeshot and didn’t look back, apparently his Dr. prescribed him a couple of big “Pixy Stix” between motos for energy and I guess it didn’t hurt. Where he really showed his stuff was in the whoops he was incredible and gained a lot of time for it. Second place battling was #28 of Jordon Smith and the # 23 of Chase Sexton battling it out back and forth right down to the last corner when Sexton went off the track these guys rode hard! Austin Forkner took the win followed by Jordon Smith in 2nd and Justin Cooper in 3rd.

The first 450SX main event was definitely a Shocker! The #10 of Justin Brayton fired out of the gate capturing the holeshot and not looking back he held onto the lead until the last lap when the #3 of Eli Tomac quaded out of the split rhythm section for the lead. Tomac actually had a horrible 11th place start on the first lap and fought back. I think the most exciting part of the race was watching the #22 of Chad Reed who was absolutely on fire. I haven’t seen Reed look that good on a bike in forever , he kept second place for the majority of the race finishing out with a 3rd place in the main. Tomac, Brayton, and Reed were your first 450 main winners with #4 of Blake Baggett and the #94 of Ken Roczen rounded out the Top 5.

The second 250SX East main event saw Jordon Smith get the holeshot but the lead was short lived as Austin Forkner on the #24 quickly regaining the lead and never looking back . The second 250SX main was a totally different race , Forkner managed to get more than a six second lead and basically set himself on cruise control for the win. Jordon Smith and Alex Martin finalized out the podium but neither of them could touch Forkner again, I guess the “Pixy Stix” didn’t hurt either.

The second 450SX main was again pretty crazy again seeing Tomac with a not great start but showing he can get the job done, like him as a rider or not Eli Tomac is fast and he can ride. The start had Cooper Webb getting the holeshot but it wasn’t enough to keep Tomac from regaining the lead and another commanding lead of over five seconds. Webb on the #2 rode really well and managed to keep second place with over a 2 ½ second lead over Savagty on the #17. Reed also had a good moto with a 5th place finish. Ken Roczen struggled in the second main with a solid 6th place finish, hopefully this is Ken’s year to shine he has been plagued by multiple injuries since coming to the U.S. to race. Savagty also has been putting in solid rides along with Marvin Musquin making for some really exciting racing this year. .Tomac, Webb and Savagty were your podium winners.

The third 250SX East main event was again Austin Forkner’s night, after guzzling down some more “Pixy Stix” he went on to get the holeshot for the lead. Chase Sexton and Jordon Smith put on another great battle for second place. Jordon put on an amazing effort but unfortunately made a mistake allowing Justin Cooper a chance to capitalize and gain the final podium position. Martin Davalos and Alex Martin had some good battles but ended up fading from the lead by an almost 14 seconds behind Forkner. I would like to make a note of Blake Whartons performance last night, its good to see him back on the bike again he has always been one of my favourite riders and he had Top 10’s in all three mains. Forkner, Sexton and Cooper were your podium winners. Last nights race gives Forkner a 13 point lead over Smith in the points race however Justin Cooper is only two points behind Smith making for some exciting racing to come.

The final 450SX main event was again full of surprises and a lot of action. The #4 of Blake Baggett took the Holeshot coming out of the gate. Tomac again had a bad start and ended up in 10th off the line Tomac struggled the remainder of the moto he made several mistakes and at one point dropped back to 14th after being shoved off the track by the #4 of Baggett . The #51 of Justin Barcia was on fire during the final moto and ended up with a solid 3rd and was riding as aggressive as ever. The #94 of Roczen took out Dean with a aggressive pass and managed to save himself on the last lap. Cooper Webb decided he was having no part of Baggett and holding him off for less than half a second finish for the win. Barcia was close with being ½ a second off of Baggett. Roczen had a solid 5th place finish leaving him second in the points with a 6pt deficit behind Webb and Musquin and Tomac only one point behind for 4th in points. Tomac ended up in 6th but had the overall win.

This season is shaping up to be another exciting championship in both classes with some really exciting bar to bar action. It will be interesting to see how the points shape up heading into Round 9 at Atlanta next week.
