The first 250 heat started out crazy before the holeshot with the gate dropping and one rider taking out a track camera. When all the chaos was over Mitchell Oldenburg took the lead with Alex Martin and Chase Sexton battling it out the entire moto. Sexton was eventually able to take the lead and hold on for the win.
The second 250 heat race started out with Austin Forkner grabbing the lead and then crashing on the first jump. Forkner was then run over before he could get up and remount his Kawasaki. Kyle Peters ended up in the lead with Justin Cooper in hot pursuit, working hard to get the lead. Forkner then gave one of the most impressive rides I have seen, coming from last and making it all the way to fifth by the end of the race. When it was all said and done, Justin Cooper took the win and set himself up for the main event.
The 450SX class has been pretty intense the last few weeks and Heat #1 was no different. The gate dropped to see Mike Alessi back in form and taking the holeshot with Dean Wilson right there with him. After a few back and forth battles with Marvin Musquin, Wilson held on and took the heat race win.
450SX Heat #2 began with Blake Baggett pulling out a very close holeshot. Copper Webb, Zach Osbourne and fan favourite Chad Reed were stacked in behind. Reed rode very impressively, and considering he turned 37-years-old the day before, he was looking very smooth. Webb took the lead late in the race and focused on keeping it and minimizing on mistakes. Webb ended up taking the heat race win, and that would conclude the very entertaining heat races.
The 250SX East main event started with a bang as Oldenburg grabbed his first holeshot of the season. Unfortunately for the Yamaha rider, Forkner was in no mood to play and quickly snatched the lead. Chase Sexton and Justin Cooper were having some great battles and both have been strong forces in the 250SX East Series. Cooper, however, was forced to come from behind after he went off the track on the opening lap. His charge to third was easily Cooper’s best ride of 2019. Forkner managed to keep the lead and dominated again with a six second lead for another impressive win, with Sexton and Cooper again settling for second and third respectively.
The 450SX main event saw Marvin Musquin grab the holeshot with Joey Savagty and Eli Tomac right behind him. Musquin was on fire with the best riding I have seen from him all year on the KTM, and he is hungry to be back on the podium. Eli Tomac has really been struggling all year with his consistency, but for the second week in a row he was sitting in second and appeared ready to take the lead. For some reason though, this week Tomac began to ride tight and soon Webb and Baggett motored by. With the track breaking down fast, Musquin rode very smooth and was able to hold on for his first win of 2019. Webb and Baggett rounded out the Top 3 and made it a clean KTM podium sweep.
Going into Round 12 in Seattle, Webb now has a 14-point lead over Musquin in the 450SX class. Seattle will also see a return of the 250SX West Series as Adam Cianciarulo will be looking to extend his points lead. These final rounds are going to be exciting as Forkner, Cianciarulo and Webb will all be looking to win their very first supercross championship. Behind them is a host of fast and aggressive riders who most certainly don’t want that to happen.
