FXR Racing Presents the Mid-Week Report with Andy White

What a supercross season we have had this year! This one ranks up there with one of the most exciting series to date. I honestly didn’t think Anderson would walk away with the championship nor did I think that there would be that many riders getting hurt over the course of the series (I think we will leave that whole subject for another day though). The lites championship, however, was a little more predictable. I had my money on Osborne and Plessinger being on the top of the box. You have to admit, though, that Feld put on a great show with the riders they had left standing after 17 rounds. I recommend anyone wanting to attend a supercross to see all the best riders hit one of the first rounds in California because you know at least all or most will be at round one. If you’re waiting for round ten or so, you will have to cross your fingers that your favourite supercross rider will make it that far without any injuries.

What a SX season it was for the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team.

While I was in Las Vegas I had the opportunity to see the Vegas Knights play the San Jose Sharks in the second round of the NHL Playoffs. I was shocked at the sticker price of my ticket. It rang in at just shy of $500 Canadian dollars after you factor the exchange rate plus the administrative charges. I thought if you’re in Vegas and you’re a hockey fan you might as well watch a game in the desert. I was expecting a good, exciting, hard-hitting game. No question, they delivered and that’s what I got. The Knights ended up taking the win 4-3. The part of the night I did not expect was the Disney/Vegas entertainment the promoter put on prior, during and after the game. I was blown away at how the event really engaged with the fans. The party outside started one or so hours before the puck even dropped. As you walked up to the arena there was a band playing to my left and big screens showing hockey videos to my right. The bars were wide open and fans were having a great time. The ladies were all dressed up in the Knights’ colours. I think my buddy and I were the only ones that didn’t have Knights jerseys on. Once in the arena, the real party started. The seats were super comfy with plenty of leg room. The music was loud and clear. The fans were dancing and cheering for their team. I was thinking to myself, “I can’t believe this is a hockey game I am at.” In Montreal or Toronto this would never fly. There are way too many old senior citizens sitting in the stands. I wonder what the Montreal entertainment department for the Canadians would think if they attended a Knights game? Perhaps they need to check it out for themselves because I would pay $500 again for another night like that. This was a venue done right.

Now we are a few weeks away from the first round of the Rockstar Triple Crown MX outdoor series in Calgary. All eyes will be on the Thompson family this time. Will they deliver a solid package? I can tell you that they are hard at work making sure that they are doing their best to make it a great event. I can tell you one thing for certain, the track will be in perfect shape. This year the pro riders will race on Saturday. This means amateurs will race the following day on a new track. I think this will be good for the pros. The promoter can water the track and build up the jumps for the pros then tame it down for the amateurs. I also feel that more spectators will attend the races on Saturday. I have heard from lots of fans in the past that they would love to attend but Sundays are family day or they are off visiting family. Now the fans can come check out the races and hang out with no rush to get back home. This summer we are sure to see some great racing from top riders and I am looking forward to it. See you at the races.

We’re now just two away from the opening round in Calgary.
