*Editor’s Note: Ryan Lockhart was busy driving his family home to BC so we asked his wife Randi these questions instead.

MXP: Okay, these questions are usually for your hubby but since he’s driving it’s your turn Randi. Let’s begin with your travels east. Newf drove and you and the kids flew to Ottawa and then drove to Deschambault for the ECAN. Overall, how has everything been going since you arrived in Ontario?
RL: Hey Palms!! I’ve only been waiting almost 10 years for an interview so thank you. This trip has been great! There were a few hiccups with the ECAN and Meston’s results but we took it as seat time for him to prep for Walton. The weather has been amazing! My hair only frizzed out a few times. It was awesome to stay at Gopher Dunes for the week before Walton. Meston got to partake in the Walton TransCan prep camp put on by Dylan Wright, RyderMcNabb, and Derek Schuster. I enjoyed watching the “tough love” they gave the kids. I think Meston actually listened!

MXP: Speaking of your son Meston, he has been steadily improving on the track and last week at the Walton TransCan he was able to get up on the podium after one of his motos. How proud were you and Ryan after Meston’s solid riding last week?
RL: I’m going to be honest with you, Meston struggled at the beginning of the week. When we are home in BC we get to see his riding potential at its finest. Seeing him ride Walton scares me because I can tell how nervous he gets. I try my best to help him decipher the feeling of being nervous vs being excited. He’s only 6 so obviously a lot of things are still new to him. It took him until the last race of the week and I’m not going to lie, that’s the best I’ve ever seen him ride. I asked him what goals he wanted to set for himself for Walton and he told me he wanted a podium. This is his last year in the 50cc 4-6 class so I’m so happy he went out with reaching his goal. Seeing him on the podium made me so proud. I can say the same for Ryan. Thank god for sunglasses because our eyes were leaking for sure.

MXP: Your hubby is obviously a popular figure in this sport and has been around for a long time. At the awards ceremony on Saturday Ryan Gauld joked that Newf was the angriest guy in the Walton paddock, but I didn’t believe that as I think he’s just stressed because he wears so many hats at the races. When you do get out to the races what impresses you the most about Ryan and is he the same cool guy at home? Maybe don’t answer the second question (haha).
RL: Hahahaha I’ve been waiting for this one. Growing up I had no clue what motocross was. When I met Ryan almost 10 years ago now, I still had no idea of the community I was about to be a part of. I still find it weird that Ryan is so well known in the sport. To me, he’s just Ryan. For a long time at the track, I’d hear in passing “look there’s Ryan Lockhart and there’s his wife”. Now I hear “look it’s Meston Lockhart’s mom.” As for Ryan being the angriest guy at Walton? I have to try and look at it through his eyes. He’s getting older. The guys he races with keep getting younger. He takes Meston to the line sometimes a moto before his own, half geared up only to race back to the pits to get himself sorted before his gate drops. He’s got our youngest son, Bowen chasing him all over because he’s a daddy’s boy. Then he has me…… usually tapped out at the end of the day myself. Not a lot of downtime for him. I do think he wears a lot of hats as a racer, sponsor, husband, and dad at the track. And to answer the last question… he’s the same at home (laughs). Thanks for the interview Palms!!!!
