With April now upon us, we’re sure everyone is hitting the track to ride. It’s also time to sit down with Ryan Lockhart to ask him some more questions about current topics in our sport. As you know, Ryan has been in this industry for over twenty years and during that time he’s been a rider, a mechanic, a riding coach, and most recently the Brand Manager over at Matrix Concepts Canada. Ryan knows a lot about a lot of things and he’s always a great guy to talk to. Here are this week’s 3 Q’s with Ryan Lockhart presented by Matrix Concepts Canada.

MXP: Finally the Supercross Series resumes this weekend. Do you think Cooper Webb picks up where he left off in Arlington or does Roczen come out swinging? Also, do you see a rider like Sexton or Anderson getting a win in Atlanta?
I really think it’s going to boil down to what Mother Nature has in store. They are calling for rain but they were in Daytona as well and it remained dry. I’m sure the break was good for Ken to regroup and figure some things out, but I’m still on the Webb Wagon. I don’t see anyone else getting a win to be honest unless something crazy happens. However, there is no question that Anderson could get one, he’s due. Sexton is going to be good as well as he has little to no pressure, Barcia could be good in the mud, and Tomac has nothing to lose at this point. I’m looking forward to tomorrow. The track looks awesome and I hope it stays dry!

MXP: Last weekend you and your family headed to the Whispering Pines track near Kamloops for some riding and camping. How was your long weekend?
It was an awesome weekend. We live in the busy Lower Mainland of BC where covid is all you seem to hear about so it was nice to go off the grid a bit, get outside, and enjoy some fresh air with family and friends. Meston probably put four hours on his bike from Thursday to Sunday and loved every minute of it. I rode three days in a row and had a blast. My wife and our newest son Bowen also got a lot of fresh air. It was a healthy weekend for us and we need to do more of it.

MXP: This week on the InsideX show they profiled the 2001 Pro National in Blackstock, Ontario. I’m not sure how well you remember that track but it was one of the roughest tracks ever used for a National?
I do remember Blackstock. I remember it had a really cool layout but with a sketchy start and first turn. I didn’t have a great day there in 2001 as I wasn’t able to get good starts. It’s crazy to look back on these old races and see how bad the track prep and track presentation was compared to today. I mean don’t get me wrong, things were good at the time but it’s crazy to see how much things have progressed over the years. Two weeks ago the InsideX show looked back at the 1999 Riverglade National and that brought back some good memories. I got my first Top 10 that day and I just remember it being awesome. Watching it 22 years later and seeing the conditions is almost funny. I don’t think the riders of today would even race on a track like that. It was so dusty you couldn’t see a thing! That’s how things were back then.
