Matrix Concepts Presents 3 Q’s With Ryan Lockhart

With Spring fast approaching, it’s almost time to head to the track and start riding. It’s also time to sit down with Ryan Lockhart and ask him some questions about current topics in our sport. As you know, Ryan has been in this industry for over twenty years and during that time he’s been a rider, a mechanic, a riding coach, and most recently the Brand Manager over at Matrix Concepts Canada. Ryan knows a lot about a lot of things and he’s always a great guy to talk to. Here are this week’s 3 Q’s with Ryan Lockhart presented by Matrix Concepts Canada.

MXP: We’re at the beginning of a new riding season in Canada. Even though you’ve been doing this for a long time do you still get excited for the first few rides of the year?

RL: I think that’s a pretty easy question to answer for everyone. Definitely yes! We love this sport and it always brings out that excitement for the first ride of the year. Wednesday was my first ride of 2021 and man let me tell you it was great for my mental health. However, I can tell you that I was pretty sore after.

MXP: You’re riding a Kawasaki again this season and your son Meston is back on his KTM for another season. You’ve been supported by Maple Ridge Motorsports for several years now. How much do Troy Smith and his dealership mean to you and the BC moto community?

RL: Where do I begin with this one. I’ve been with Troy and MRM since 2014 and don’t see myself going anywhere else. .You have to respect a dealer who supports the sport and one who believes in the sponsorship system. He just wants to be there to lend a helping hand to his team riders as well as his son Devyn. We have a good thing going and BC motocross is very fortunate to have Troy Smith around.

MXP: Okay, we have to put you on the spot. Who wins Daytona this weekend? It might be wet but who knows. Assuming the conditions are good, who wins the 450SX and 250SX West class?

RL: If it’s dry then I’m going with Tomac and Justin Cooper. Tomac pretty much owns Daytona and I would assume that the track is going to suit Cooper just fine. If it’s wet then I’m going with maybe Roczen in the 450SX class but I’ll stay with Cooper in the 250SX West class. However, it wouldn’t surprise me if Chase Sexton really comes out swinging. He’s fast and with being out of the title chase he has no pressure. He can just go out and ride and that could be dangerous for everyone else.
