Cody Meatherall is a talented six-year-old rider from Waterford, Ontario, who started riding when he was only two-years-old, has already visited the podium a few times, and is definitely moving forward to becoming a future star in Canadian Motocross.
MXP: Hey Cody, thanks for chatting with me today. What kind of bike do you ride and what is your number?
CM: I ride a KTM 50SX and I use the number 109.
Do you race in any clubs or series?
I am a member of the Steel City Riders Club and joined into the Fall Series of Thames Valley Riders. I also tried the Rockstar Triple Crown Supercross at Delaware Speedway.
The Supercross track? On your 50cc? Wow, did you like that?
The Delaware SX track was awesome. The jumps were so big, and I loved it. I got see all the pro riders race too, and being up close to them was great. The main event under the lights was very cool too. And the fans cheering, I think they were cheering me on. I definitely want to race the Hamilton SX track in November.
Do you have a favourite track that you like riding?
I don’t really have a favourite, well maybe my own track. My Dad built a track for me to practice. Since I enjoyed the Supercross track so much, my Dad built me a supercross track too. It has bigger jumps that I love to clear with my dirt bike.
Do you have a hero or someone you look up to?
I would have to say my Dad. He’s always taking me to the races and helping me practice. He even built me a track at home so I can practice after school or whenever I want; we call it “Cody’s Cave MX Track.”
Thanks, great! You’re very lucky to have your track. Who is your favourite rider and why?
My favourite rider is my friend Zachary Owczarzy; he’s fast and my friend.
Is there any Canadian rider that you look up to, and why?
My Canadian favourite rider is Cole Thompson, because he’s fast and he rides a KTM. Hopefully someday I’ll will be as fast as him. I hope he wins this year, but I know if he doesn’t win he worked hard this year, maybe he’ll win next year. Do you think I could meet Cole?
Maybe we can arrange a meeting with Cole later this month in Hamilton. So, since you’re still young and haven’t raced that much, are there any big accomplishments you have achieved?
At a Steel City Riders’ last race of this year I finished second while competing against older kids.
At the TVR final race of the season I finished first place in the Tyke B class on both days.
My best award was finishing 3rd overall at the Rockstar Triple Crown SXTour. I also cleared a big double at my track at home, so I was pretty happy with that.
The 2018 season is almost done, were there any goals you wanted to achieve, and what are your future goals?
Well, I’d like to race a full season next year, win the Tyke B Spring Championship, then move up to Tyke A and win that with the Thames Valley Riders Club.
With Steel City I’d like to win a championship in the 50cc class, too. I’d also like to try to qualify and race the Walton TransCan in 2019.
If I keep practicing and stay focused, hopefully 2019 is going to be a great year for me.
What is your favourite part about going to the races?
I love everything about racing, from the camping, hanging out with my friends, and just having fun.
What do like to do when you’re not racing?
I enjoying riding my dirt bike on my home track and practicing clearing jumps.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us today, but one last question, who would you like to thank?
I would like to thank my Mom and Dad for everything they do for me, and of course my grandparents too. Also, a big thanks to all my friends I met this year, I hope to see everyone next season. Thank you to the Rockstar Triple Crown Series too for having the amateurs at their big events, it definitely gives the young riders the experience of riding new and challenging tracks.
Cody Meatherall is a very determined young rider who already has 150 practice hours on his bike just in this season. The future of Canadian Motocross is definitely brighter with Cody Meatherall at the starting gates. We are looking forward to seeing him on the track and the podium again the future.
