MXP: Hey Newf, talk to us about last weekend and Round 3 of the Future West MX Series. It looked to be your longest drive of the season so far, how was the turnout and the racing?
RL: It was a long drive for sure and it didn’t help with the gas prices right now, but like I said last week, the Quesnel track is a good one. Deep sand always makes it interesting and the club did a really good job with the prep and we saw some great racing throughout all the classes. The Pro-AM turnout was a little lower as most of these guys are in their final prep for the nationals. We had 400 entries which was more than I could hope for with one of our northern races. Also, there were no injuries which is always a bonus as well.

MXP: The gate drops tomorrow on the 50th Anniversary of the USA Outdoor MX Nationals in California. Who do you have winning the 250 and 450 classes?
RL: I’m excited as there is always so much hype at the start of this series. It looks like it’s going to be a hot one and I watched some press day stuff yesterday and the track looks great but not super flowing which is usual for Fox Raceway. If I’m picking winners for each class I’m going with Jett Lawrence in the 250 class and Jason Anderson in 450 class. My dark horse pics are Hunter Lawrence in 250 and Ken Roczen in 450. I will touch on Ryan Dungey really quickly. After watching press videos yesterday he looks really good. Almost like he’s never missed a beat and I think if he can figure out the intensity that he hasn’t experienced in 6 years, he’s going to be right in there. Regardless of where he finishes, it’s going to be great to see Dungey back on the track.

MXP: Next week is the 2022 WCAN as well as the opening round of the Triple Crown Series in Kamloops. As we sit here today how are things coming along for the WCAN and what last-minute important information do people need to know?
RL: Everything is falling into place really nicely. It’s an exciting time for us here in the west as we are getting the WCAN back as well as the Triple Crown Series. I’m heading up there this weekend to help with some small track changes and some facility preparation. Some of the important info for people to know is that sign-up closes for WCAN on Sunday at 11:59 PM. Also, move-in day is Wednesday at 9:00 AM and it is important to have all riders come to the Future West trailer to check-in before practice on Thursday. We have a lot of cool events lined up including the Shift Holeshot challenge, Surron night show race, and a live band on Saturday night. It should be a great week of amateur racing and of course, the pros are going to be exciting to watch on Sunday.
