Five Alive With Cole Thompson Presented By Parts Canada

Last weekend at the second round of the 2022 Australian SX Series in Adelaide, Cole Thompson got off to another great start in the 250 main event. Unfortunately, soon after he tangled with another rider and went down. Cole would battle back but before the race was complete, he’d go down once more. It was obviously not the race he wanted at the second round, however, after two races Cole still sits third overall in the 250 class points. We caught up with Cole to get his take on Round 2 in Adelaide.

MXP: Hey Cole! Sounds like the main event in Adelaide was a tough one?

It was frustrating, I had just passed into second on the opening lap and then in the next corner, I went to protect the inside line when someone jumped straight into me causing us both to crash. I got up and then went from dead last to 8th in a few laps but had another small crash, putting myself way behind again. I ended up finishing in 7th and now I’m sitting third in points. I hate having nights like this especially when I now have almost a month to think about it until Round 3. But it motivates me to work harder for the remaining rounds.

MXP: Overall though you must be happy with your speed?

I was really happy with my pace, if I can get a decent start and stay off the ground I should be fighting for wins

MXP: It looks like you’ve been working hard on bike setup during the week. How is your Serco Yamaha?

The bike is a rocket ship, I’ve gone a bit softer on the suspension setup since the tracks here are pretty tamed. Overall it’s a championship bike, I just need to make it happen.

MXP: Where in Australia have you been staying during the week?

I’m staying in Sunshine Coast, about an hour north of Brisbane. It’s a little beach town so it feels like a dream getting to spend my time here.

MXP: Okay, you have a few weeks until Round 3. What are your plans?

I’ll keep working on getting more comfortable with my bike, but also keep up the high intensity on the track. Obviously, my starts can be better, so I’ll work to find a consistent balance to hit every start.
